Projects Copywriter

Role: Projects Copywriter
Reports to: Projects Editor
Location: Remote
Employment Type: Full Time

Role Overview

At The Locavore, our work extends beyond storytelling—we engage deeply with communities, drive impact-driven initiatives, and explore ways to make sustainable food systems more accessible and inclusive. Our Projects vertical is at the heart of this mission, working across diverse initiatives such as the Mumbai Koli Project, the Local Food Club, and other upcoming collaborations. As a Projects Copywriter, you will play a crucial role in bringing these projects to life through compelling narratives, clear communication, and impactful storytelling.

Your writing will serve as a bridge between grassroots action, editorial efforts, and public engagement, ensuring that the totality of the work we do is documented, communicated, and amplified effectively. Through website content, engaging reports, and project updates, you will contribute to shaping the public understanding of our impact-driven work.

Project Communication:

  • Write and edit content that documents The Locavore’s ongoing projects, capturing our evolution, impact, and challenges
  • Collaborate with the Editorial and Digital Media teams to publish project-related content on our website and across platforms
  • Contribute to storytelling around various projects, by documenting how communities are engaging with local food, sustainability practices, and collective action
  • Develop compelling pitch decks, presentations, and executive summaries that articulate the vision and objectives of The Locavore’s projects

Website & Newsletter Content:

  • Write and edit website content related to various projects, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with The Locavore’s voice. You can refer to one of our project pages here
  • Upload and format project-related content (articles, reports, event recaps) on The Locavore website using WordPress and other CMS tools
  • Craft engaging newsletters that provide updates on project developments, partnerships, and upcoming initiatives

Marketing & Social Media Support:

  • Collaborate with the Digital Media team to create captions, summaries, and social media copy that amplify project-related storytelling across platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn
  • Ensure consistency in tone, formatting, and style across digital content, while adhering to internal publishing workflows

Event & Campaign Coverage:

  • Write pre and post-event summaries for project-related workshops, discussions, and community gatherings. You can refer to our events pages to see how this has been done in the past
  • Assist in creating campaign materials that amplify the impact of our projects, whether through print, digital, or multimedia storytelling

Cross-Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the Projects, Partnerships, Editorial, and Marketing teams to ensure consistency and coherence in project communication
  • Support the Projects team by contributing to grant applications and donor reports
  • Engage with external collaborators, researchers, and community members to ensure authenticity and inclusivity in project narratives

Candidate Attributes

  • Experience in writing for impact-driven projects, non-profits, or organisations working at the intersection of sustainability, culture, and community development
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading abilities, with attention to tone, accuracy, and clarity
  • Ability to adapt writing style for different audiences—ranging from formal reports to engaging website content
  • Strong storytelling skills, with a knack for translating complex ideas into compelling narratives
  • Comfortable working with data, reports, and research materials, ensuring content is well-informed and evidence-based
  • A collaborative mindset, able to work across teams and coordinate effectively with various stakeholders
  • Passionate about food systems, sustainability, and grassroots initiatives, with a deep interest in community-driven change
  • Proficiency in WordPress and SEO (preferred but not mandatory)

Growth Opportunities

Joining The Locavore as a Projects Copywriter presents significant growth potential:

  • Deeper involvement in project strategy: With demonstrated initiative and expertise, you may transition into a more strategic role within the Projects or Editorial teams
  • Leadership in storytelling and documentation: As The Locavore’s projects expand, you will have the opportunity to lead storytelling initiatives, ensuring that research, fieldwork, and grassroots efforts are well-documented and communicated effectively
  • Creative ownership over campaigns and materials: You may take on larger editorial projects, developing publications, reports, and educational materials that shape conversations around food sustainability

This role is perfect for someone who is not only an excellent writer but also deeply invested in real-world change through food and community-driven projects. If you thrive at the intersection of writing, communications, and social impact, we’d love to have you on board.
