Social Media Associate

Role: Social Media Associate
Reports to: Digital Media Lead
Location: Remote
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

At The Locavore, we believe food can be a powerful catalyst for cultural, ecological, and systemic change. Through storytelling, community initiatives, partnerships, events, and public campaigns, we deepen conversations around India’s food systems.

As a TL Social Media Associate, you will help bring The Locavore’s work to life across digital platforms. Your role will focus on translating the breadth of TL’s initiatives — editorial storytelling, recipes, producer partnerships, projects, events, campaigns, and the Local Food Club — into engaging and coherent social media content. You will work closely with the Digital Media Lead, as well as the Editorial, Projects, Partnerships, and Marketing teams, to ensure our stories are communicated clearly, consistently, and creatively across platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, X, and Facebook. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across diverse content streams, understands how different platforms function, and is excited about using social media as a tool for meaningful storytelling.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Content Execution

Manage and publish content across The Locavore’s social media platforms, including Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, X, and Facebook. Responsibilities include:

  • Drafting captions and copy aligned with TL’s voice and editorial tone

  • Preparing posts across formats including reels, carousels, stories, videos, and posts

  • Scheduling and publishing content using appropriate tools

  • Ensuring platform-specific optimisation of formats and captions

  • Coordinating with the Digital Media Lead to maintain organised content calendars

Translating TL’s Work Into Social Media Content

Work closely with different teams within The Locavore to gather inputs, assets, and context, and translate ongoing work into digital storytelling. This includes content related to:

  • Editorial: Articles, essays, interviews, storytelling from the website, as well as recipes and ingredient-focused pieces

  • Partnerships: Producer spotlights, organisational collaborations, partner announcements, and partnership-led campaigns

  • Projects: Initiatives such as the Local Food Project, Millet Revival Project, Mumbai Koli Project, and other TL-led programs

  • Events & Campaigns: Beyond the Plate sessions, film screenings, panels, workshops, festivals, public talks, collaborative dinners, and campaign launches

  • Local Food Club: Meetup highlights, community storytelling, volunteer and host narratives, and national LFC initiatives

Community Engagement

Support The Locavore’s digital community by maintaining active and thoughtful engagement across platforms. Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and responding to comments, messages, and mentions across platforms

  • Highlighting meaningful audience contributions or community posts when relevant

Event & On-Ground Content Support

Support social media coverage for TL events and public programs when needed. This may include:

  • Preparing event announcements and promotional posts

  • Coordinating with team members capturing photos and videos on-site

  • Executing on real-time posting and/or and post-event storytelling and documentation

Documentation & Performance Tracking

Maintain organised documentation of social media outputs. Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining content calendars and copy documents

  • Organising assets for social posts

  • Contributing to post-performance tracking and campaign-level digital summaries

Candidate Attributes

We are looking for someone who is curious, organised, and comfortable working across multiple content streams. The ideal candidate:

  • Is passionate about food systems, sustainability, and cultural storytelling

  • Writes clearly and confidently in a tone suited to digital platforms

  • Has a strong sense of visual aesthetics and can create simple, appealing creative assets

  • Understands how different social media platforms function

  • Is organised and comfortable managing multiple timelines

  • Is collaborative and proactive in communication

  • Has an eye for engaging formats and storytelling opportunities

Experience & Skills

  • 2–3 years experience in social media management or digital communications

  • Strong writing and captioning skills

  • Familiarity with platforms including Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Facebook, and YouTube

  • Experience using scheduling tools such as Meta Business Suite or similar

  • Ability to manage content calendars and structured documentation

  • Ability to create simple designs using Canva or similar tools

  • Ability to edit short-form video for reels or social formats

Growth Opportunities

This role provides strong exposure to the full spectrum of The Locavore’s work — from editorial storytelling and community initiatives to national projects and public events. Over time, the Social Media Associate will gain a deep understanding of digital storytelling within the food systems space. With demonstrated initiative and growth, the role can evolve into positions such as Digital Media Lead, with greater responsibility for platform strategy, campaign development, and cross-team digital coordination.
